Well,
Here we are a week and a day till Christmas. Less than a week till the solstice (aka Yule).
I have done most of my shopping. I hope to finish tomorrow so that I can avoid any further contact with southern malls this year.
The malls here just do not measure up to northern malls. There's less amusement and good taste, and more redneckness and spoiled children and the dreaded "mall hair". Yes, it still exists. It is thriving along with stretch pants and sweatshirts covered in glitter and "bedazzles" (what ever the hell that means).
I, with my plain jeans and form fitting basic black turtle neck (or sweater), just don't stand a chance out there. Who can compete with people who have been dipped in a vat of glitter, sparkly beads and then pressure coated with pancake makeup?
Hence I give up. I will keep my Yule-celebrating, pagan self away form the modern day beacons of Christmas spirit.
Never mind that it was our holiday first. That the "reason for the season" is actually the winter solstice and rebirth of the sun/earth.
I'm not one to poke fun at other peoples holidays...unless they start antagonizing (okay well actually I am but never mind that now). Sssshhhh Jeremy.
All religions have their place and who is really to say what's right or wrong. I for one was not here when the world began and so do to know who started it. I'm also mostly polytheistic so I believe there is room for everyone's god/goddess/celestial grasshopper/etc.
Really, unless you know (because you were there) then you really don't know who God/goddess/or the celestial grasshopper/etc. is. You could be wrong..you could drive someone off the right path into your darkness if you are wrong. Think about that for a while. Are you so certain you're right and everyone else is wrong that you would risk their soul in an effort to improve your standing in your own mind?
